Admission

The School of Conservation admits students to the undergraduate programmes of the individual departments with three-year intervals. Admission is announced in the newspapers. The next admission will be in 2010 when students will be admitted to the five departments: Graphic Art, Object Conservation, Pictorial Art, Monumental Art and Natural History.

The number of students is determined by the Ministry of Culture on a regular basis. It is to be expected that 40 bachelor students will be admitted in 2010. 10% of these 60 students may be non-EU citizens. In addition, admission may be granted to a limited number of students from Norway and Iceland.

  • A prerequisite for admission is the successful completion of:
  • Studentereksamen (upper secondary school leaving examination)
  • Højere forberedelseseksamen (HF) (higher preparatory examination)
  • Højere handelseksamen (HHX) (higher commercial examination)
  • Højere teknisk eksamen (HTX) (higher technical examination)
  • Special higher preparatory examination for non-Danish speaking persons
  • Foreign examination which Denmark has recognized as equivalent to a Danish qualifying examination
  • Danish/French Baccalaureate (DFB), European Baccalaureate (EB), International Baccalaureate (IB) or Option International de Baccalaureate (OIB)

The qualifying examination(s) must include chemistry on or equal to the upper secondary school leaving examination intermediate or B-level. In addition, individual departments may require certain subject areas and proficiencies, as will appear from the descriptions of the departments.

Since instruction is primarily conducted in Danish, non-Danish applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the language. However, most of the specialist literature is in languages other than Danish, mainly English and German, so a knowledge of these two languages is also important.

Evaluation is based on an application form as well as on supplementary material, for instance examples of the student's own works. The application form may be obtained from the School of Conservation or from its website once admission is announced at the beginning of the year of admission.

The applicant must also submit certification of Ishihara's test for color blindness. Other relevant education, either completed or in process, may be additionally qualifying, e.g. art school, trade school, apprenticeships or studies at universities or other schools of higher education.

Applications are handled by school's board of admission consisting of faculty from the individual departments. All applicants will receive a letter notifying them of their status.
